Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to travel to Australia?

Yes, all persons except Australian citizens and New Zealand passport holders must obtain a visa or travel authority before travelling to Australia.

Can I work on a turist visa?

No.

When can I legally work in Australia?

When you enter Australia as a migrant you have full working rights.

When you have a student visa you are allowed to work not more than 20 hours per week, however, you must remember that a student visa issued in Warsaw does not have this permission yet. Students have to apply for a visa with a work permit in Australia.

There are limited work rights on an eVisitor if you are coming to Australia for business reasons.

You may have heard from your friends that Australians help find jobs and accommodation for young people looking for work. This is not true. There are no government schemes for foreigners looking for work. If you have a genuine offer from an Australian employer they must have their sponsorship approved by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in Australia before you will be allowed to apply for a temporary visa with limited work rights.

How long does my passport need to be valid for entry to Australia?

If you are entering on a visitor visa your passport should be valid for the period of intended stay in Australia.

Do I need to show proof of funds when I arrive in Australia?

You may be asked to provide evidence that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay when you arrive in Australia.

Do I need a return ticket?

No, but you may need to show that you have sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket when you arrive in Australia.

I am over 70 years old. Are there any special processing requirements applicable to me?

Yes, all applicants for a Tourist (676) visa aged 70 years or over, must also provide a letter with their application from the Embassy panel doctor stating that they are fit to travel to Australia, remain for the period of intended stay and return to their home country. Comprehensive medical insurance will also be required.

An eVisitor does not have this requirement.
